University of Wyoming head football coach Dave Christensen announced on Monday that Dan Hammerschmidt and Pete Kaligis have joined the Wyoming football staff.

Hammerschmidt will coach the wide receivers and Kaligis will coach the offensive line.

The Mountain West Conference couldn’t have picked a better time to flex its muscles and show the nation that collegiate athletics is alive and well in a regional area viewed by most as a void between the Pac-10 and the other major conferences to the East.

The senior quarterback might finally be comfortable with the offense.

The senior defensive end could actually get to spend some time on the sideline and have more margin for error.

The University of Wyoming athletics department announced on Monday that Trent Greener has been hired as the director of strength and conditioning and head football strength coach at Wyoming.

Greener was a football letterman for the Cowboys in 1987 and 1988. He comes to Wyoming after serving in a similar position at the University of Washington since 2005.

Mobility isn't an absolute necessity.

But Dave Christensen found a quarterback with some.

Prior experience in the new Wyoming coach's spread offense wasn't mandatory either.

Though Robert Benjamin has that, too.

This one will almost certainly be dealing with his new boss more frequently.

After adding a defensive coordinator on Tuesday, Wyoming coach Dave Christensen announced the signing of an assistant to lead his spread offense on Wednesday, tabbing former San Jose State co-coordinator Marcus Arroyo to call the plays.

CHEYENNE -- For the next couple of weeks, Dave Christensen will concentrate on his old job.

The University of Wyoming football coach, who has been on the job for a little more than two weeks, was on his way back to Columbia, Mo., Wednesday for bowl preparations as the University of Missouri's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Monday was truly a joyous day for Dave Christensen and Marty English.

Christensen was introduced as the University of Wyoming's new football coach. Even though he had been on the job for a week prior to meeting fans and media in person, it was still a big day because this is Christensen's first head college coaching job.
